YouTube recently launched Playables, a new feature that lets you play video games directly through the video streaming platform. YouTube Playables do not need a user to download or install the game.
Notably, the feature is only available for YouTube Premium subscribers. If you are not a premium member, there is no way for you to access the Playables.
The ‘Playables’ is a collection of arcade games that YouTube has added to its library. These games can be played on Android, iOS, and even desktops. The feature is currently in the experimental phase with 36 arcade titles. You have until March 28 to try out the feature. Here is everything you need to know about it.
YouTube Playables: How to opt-in
Step 1: Open the YouTube app and tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
Step 2: Click on the Settings icon (gear symbol) in the top right corner.
Step 3: Tap on “Try new features.”
Step 4: Under “Available,” find “Play games on YouTube” and toggle the switch to “On.”
Alternatively, you can enable Playables on your desktop by signing in to your YouTube account and then heading over to the Explore menu where you will find the Playables link. Click the toggle to “Turn on” and find the games you want to try out.
Find games to play
Once activated, you have two ways to find playable games:
Playables shelf: Look for the “Playables” shelf on the YouTube homepage. This shelf will showcase some of the available games.
Playables destination page: Open the Explore tab and navigate to the Gaming section to find a dedicated Playables section with a wider selection of games.
When you find a game that you want to play, simply tap on it. The game will load within the YouTube app (or the web) and you’ll be ready to play.
