Total Solar Eclipse 2024: Why Surya Garhan Won’t Be Visible In India

Skywatchers eagerly anticipate the breathtaking spectacle of the Total Solar Eclipse 2024. This rare event will occur on April 8th when the Moon positions itself between the Sun and Earth, completely obstructing the Sun’s rays.

Unlike a regular solar eclipse, where the Moon partially covers the Sun, a Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon entirely blocks the Sun, casting a shadow on Earth.

Those lucky enough to be within the path of totality, where the Moon’s shadow completely obscures the Sun, will witness the awe-inspiring phenomenon – the Total Solar Eclipse. However, those who are residing in India will not be able to witness this celestial event. Here’s Why.

Why Surya Garhan Won’t Be Visible In India

The Total Solar Eclipse will not be visible worldwide. NASA says that its trajectory which stretches from Texas to Maine in the United States, will witness the totality. As per the Time and Date website, the first location to catch the partial solar eclipse will begin at 15:42 UTC (21:12 IST) and the last location to see the solar eclipse will be at 20:52 UTC (2:22 IST). The maxima of the solar eclipse is set at 18:17 UTC (23:47 IST). Due to the night in India, the citizens will not witness the Surya Grahan in India.

How To Watch Solar Eclipse In India?

If you are from India or any other country which will not witness the Total Solar Eclipse this year, then NASA has a solution. You will be able to witness the live Solar Eclipse while sitting at home. NASA is set to provide live coverage of the eclipse commencing at 1 p.m. EDT (10:30 pm IST). You can anticipate live streams showcasing the eclipse from various vantage points across North America, along with insights from NASA experts and astronauts aboard the space station.

The broadcast will span three hours, featuring live feeds from multiple locations across the nation, including NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Ohio and cities such as Carbondale, Illinois; Dallas; Houlton, Maine; Indianapolis; Kerrville, Texas; Niagara Falls, New York; and Russellville, Arkansas. NASA’s coverage will be available for streaming on NASA+, airing on NASA TV, and accessible through the space agency’s website.
