At least 40 people have been killed and more than 100 others injured ahead of a sold-out rock concert when gunmen stormed the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk. It is being reported by the media that responsibility for the attack has been claimed by a terrorist group, and the assailants have yet to be apprehended by authorities.

In a press statement released on Friday evening, the Security Council has condemned “the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack”. - A shooting spree was initiated by unidentified gunmen armed with assault rifles in the lobby and inside the concert hall of Crocus City Hall just before a concert by the rock band Picnic, according to eyewitnesses as reported by TASS. Dead and injured individuals have been reported.
- The musicians of the band Picnic were confirmed to be unharmed during the shooting by its director, Yury Chernyshevsky.
- An explosion occurred within the building, resulting in a fire outbreak. The Moscow Region’s Emergencies Ministry department has reported that approximately one third of the Crocus City Hall building is engulfed in fire, with thick black smoke emerging.
- The building’s rooftop has been largely consumed by fire and has partially collapsed. The scent of smoke has permeated nearby neighborhoods.
- Despite ongoing rescue efforts, there are still individuals trapped inside the building, some of whom can be observed from the windows, as per a TASS correspondent.
Rescue Operations:
- Special law enforcement agencies are implementing necessary measures following the incident, as announced by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Public Relations Center.
- The Crocus City Hall has been approached by SOBR and OMON special police units from the Russian National Guard. As reported by TASS, they have already reached the scene.
- The Moscow Region’s health ministry has dispatched over 30 regional ambulance crews and more than 20 Moscow ambulance crews to the Crocus City Hall.
- Firefighters have successfully evacuated approximately 100 individuals from the basement of the burning building and are currently conducting rooftop rescues.
Authorities’ Response:
- Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov stated that he was en route to the scene and confirmed the establishment of a crisis center.
- Despite the tragedy, the Myakinino subway station, adjacent to the concert hall, continues to operate as usual, according to Moscow’s transport department.
- Traffic on the Moscow Ring Road in front of the Crocus City Hall has been restricted along both lanes, as communicated by the transport department via its Telegram channel.
- Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has directed assistance to be provided to all victims of the incident.
