Latur: In a shocking case reported from Maharashtra’s Latur, a man allegedly killed his 6-year-old child. He later himself also died by suicide. The police have initiated an investigation in the case.
Financial distress led to crime: Police
The police said that the man seemed to be in financial distress. This they believe is what led to the crime. According to the police the man first strangled his 6-year-old daughter, then later he hanged himself to death.
The man was identified as 35-year-old Laxminivas Bhutada. He allegedly killed his 6-year-old daughter Navya at their rented accommodation in Moti Nagar, in Latur. There was no one else at home at the time of the deaths. The girl’s mother had gone to her parents house, police said.
The police found that the man had tried several businesses in the past but all of them failed. Recently he started a hotel business, some 6 months ago. He was hoping to make some profits in this new venture, but things didn’t work out. In fact his financial condition worsened in the past few days.
The police meanwhile have sent the 2 bodies for post mortem. They are awaiting the reports to take any further action. They are also waiting for the man’s wife to return home to question her. Though it is fairly clear that the suicide and the murder happened due to financial difficulties, they want to confirm this from the woman.
Similar crime in the past
In a similar case also reported from Maharashtra, a man had killed his daughter in Dombivali, Thane. The incident was reported in September 2023. In this case, the man killed the child because he was unable to afford her treatment, the police had said.
A complaint was filed by the girl’s mother Lilavati. She had alleged that her 10-year-old daughter was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thane and the father was finding it difficult to manage the expenses. He often used to say that “the girl is of no use and that she should be killed.”
Though the mother tried her best to protect the child and never used to leave her alone. One day the husband came home drunk and strangled the child, when she was alone at home.
