The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again extended the deadline for Aadhaar holders to update their Aadhaar cards and upload documents online at no cost.
Residents now have until 14th June 2024 to update their data for free. This extension follows the previous deadline of 14th March, which was considered inadequate for everyone to complete their updates.
According to UIDAI, Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identity number issued to Indian residents, plays a crucial role in various government services and financial transactions. By linking Aadhaar with biometrics, the system prevents duplicate numbers and helps identify fraudulent activities. Hence, by updating the documents, residents can ensure the details are up-to-date and no one can misuse them.
Updating these details ensures:
Accuracy: Maintaining accurate information on your Aadhaar minimises errors during authentication processes.
Improved Services: Updated Aadhaar data allows for the smoother delivery of government services and benefits.
Security: Revalidating demographic information strengthens Aadhaar’s security features and helps in detecting fake identities.
UIDAI advises individuals who received their Aadhaar card more than 10 years ago to update their Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents. It is also crucial to update a child’s biometric details on their Aadhaar card at ages 5 and 15. The process is the same as for adults, with no separate procedure for minors. This card, known as Baal Aadhaar, is available even for newborns.
