Mumbai: Stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui and 13 other persons were detained by Mumbai Police in raid at a hookah bar in Fort area of South Mumbai on Tuesday late night.
According to reports, Social service branch of the city police conducted raid at Sabalan hookah bar at Borah Bazar based after a tip-off.
“Out team raided a hookah bar after inputs that patrons were indulging in tobacco-based hookah use here. If it is established that the accused were smoking the tobacco-based hookah, then they are likely to be charged under Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act,” reported Times of India qouting a police officer of the social service branch.
According to police, the accused have been booked under Cigarette and other Tobacco products (Prohibition of Advertising and trade, commerce, production, supply and distribution regulation) Act 2003.
Munawar Faruqui given notice after initial questioning
As per reports, Munawar Faruqui was taken to MRA Marg Police station along with 14 persons which included six guests. Faruqui and other guests were handed over notices after initial questioning.
“On reliable information raid was conducted while arrested accused and wanted accused were running illegal hooka Parlour, on 26/03/2024 at 21.45 PM at above place and offence under above sections is registered at MRA Marg Police Station,” reads a statement by police.
Police said, during the raid, they have also recovered Rs 4,400 in cash, and 09 hukka pot (valued at Rs 13,500). A total of 14 persons have been taken into custody in connection with the crime at ‘Sabaln- The taste of Persia,’ at Bombay matual annex, Rustom Sendhwa Marg, Handloom house fort, Mumbai.
